Listen to Daft Punk on iHeartRadio

In just a little bit over a week, Daft Punk will release of their album Random Access Memories. This is their first album in years, and other than their involvement in the "Tron" record, fans might be wondering - "Where have they been?"

Pete Tong has aired his exclusive interview with the guys, where they talk about what they've been up to, Random Access Memories, the making of their great comeback album, working with Pharrell and "Get Lucky," and more.

On where they've been: "The last 8 years were filled with different experiences from going on tour for almost a year-and-a-half/two years in 2006 & 2007, working on 'Tron' in 2009 and part of 2010. But most of the time we were taking the time to re-invent ourselves and see where we could go next. And we were really experimenting all these years in the studio."

On the making of Random Access Memories: "The 'Tron' record somehow gave us the key of a direction which we could take, which was focusing on, as you said, like doing the same music but, replacing to so much an extent, the machines, with the people. And really also we've always loved sampling, and we were like really wondering what was the magic in the samples. What was the magic in those little bits of life, and snippets of audio recordings that had so much sparkle and soul."

They go on to say, "There's so much life in it that we felt like that would be a very interesting experiment to see if we could make a record, re-creating a certain set of circumstances to maybe feel like the 'golden age' of these records is not over. To bring it back."
